Abuja, – Prof. Peter Onwualu, Acting President, African University of Science and Technology, on Sunday called on youths to take advantage of advancements in technology to be engaged and better their lots.
Onwualu, a former Director-General, Raw Material Research and Development Centre, made the call at the Global Family Circle Chapel (GFCC)2022 Convention and Leadership Summit in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that the summit had the theme”Leadership, Creativity and Innovation”.
Onwualu said that advancements in technology would help youths to be gainfully employed and earn a living instead of waiting for white collar jobs.
” Digital systems are here with us and we cannot run away from it if we want to succeed in life.
‘So we need to integrate ourselves into the technology revolution especially the youths and the beauty of this is that it is there for everyone.
‘With your smart phone, you can do anything that the laptop can do. So as a young man or woman, you don’t have to own an office before you can earn a living.
“For those of you who are younger, the future is there for you in digital skills to maximise what ever you are doing, ”he said.
Onwualu said that there was need for everyone to acquire digital skills and find a place in the digital space.
In her address, Mrs Loveth Ashibuogwu, Senior Pastor, GFCC ,said that the theme of the summit was in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ashibuogwu said that the SDGs goals were principally targeted at positively strengthening institutional, social responsibility and cooperation, human capacity development and empowerment.
According to her, the goals also recognise integrity and celebrate leadership excellence.
NAN reports that awards were given to individuals and organisations for their leadership excellence at the summit.
Among those honoured was Mr Adebayo Fagbemi, Managing Director of Nigerian Electricity Liability Management (NELCOM)(NAN)
