Donald Trump Announces 10-Year Jail Term For Anyone Who Vandalizes Public Statues Amid Black Lives Matter Protests

Donald Trump has authorised the Federal to anyone vandalises statues and has warned any culprit commits the act faces up to 10 years in prison, amid Black Lives Matter in the US.

The US President made the announcement in a tweet on Tuesday, June 23.

He said action will be taken effective immediately, and also threatened the order could be used ‘retroactively for destruction or vandalism already caused.’

He wrote: ‘I have authorized the Federal to anyone vandalizes or destroys any monument, statue or such Federal in the U.S. up to 10 years in prison, per the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation Act, or such laws be pertinent.

‘This action is taken effective immediately, but also be used retroactively for destruction or vandalism already caused. There will be no exceptions!’

The announcement follows weeks of anti-racism demonstrations over the death of and African Americans in the hands of white police officers, activists calling for the removal of memorials to the country’s colonialist past.
