The DPO and station office of Osumenyi in Nnewi South Local Government Area were amongst those killed after armed thugs embarked on a rampage in Anambra State on Friday, police said in a statement.
Several other police officers were also wounded in the attack, which affected several police stations across local government areas in the state. They have been taken to the hospital, police said. Peoples Gazette learnt Friday night that the police commissioner John Abang has been unable to reach Inspector-General Mohammed Adamu to secure reinforcements after officers in the command were overwhelmed by the rampaging thugs.
Chief police spokesman Frank Mba did not immediately answer calls seeking comments about Mr. Abang’s ordeal Friday night. Thugs have caused untold damage around the country since Monday, killing, harming and destroying assets. Many of those killed were taking part in the #EndSARS protests against police brutality.

Meanwhile, the DPO Osumeyi Division and two others were fatally wounded during the attack.The injured police officers were rushed to the hospital for medical attention after which the DPO and the Station officer Osumeyi were confirmed dead by the medical Doctor while the other police Constable is responding to treatment.Corpses photographed and deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
Consequently, the hoodlums equally torched part of Awgbu Division but were later repelled by the police in collaboration with members of the Communities. However, Six suspects were arrested in connection with the recent attack on 3-3 Police Station and effort is being intensified to arrest other fleeing perpetrators in order to bring them to book.
