Pyongyang – The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday accused South Korea of worsening the military tension between the two countries by purchasing a large amount of U.S. military hardware and bolstering its ballistic missile capabilities.
The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in a commentary that during recent talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Seoul, South Korean President Moon Jae-in promised to purchase a huge volume of U.S. military hardware for three years.
“In return for this, the U.S. promised to lift the measure for restricting the weights of the ballistic missile warheads of the South Korean puppet forces,’’ the commentary said.
It called the agreement “a dangerous military confrontational act aimed to further strain the situation on the Korean Peninsula and endanger the regional peace and stability.
“This is a senseless act of fools unaware of where they stand and ignorant of the tremendous might of the DPRK’s nuclear force,’’ it added.
During his visit to Seoul earlier this month, Trump said the U.S. trade deficit with South Korea would be brought down by the latter’s purchase of a “very substantial” amount of American military hardware.
“Trump, during the visit, appreciated South Korea’s big purchase orders for U.S. military weapons,’’ media reports said. (Xinhua/NAN)
