Lagos – A 37-year-old driver, Lukmon Oyetayo, was on Friday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of a tricycle, valued at N820,000.
Oyetayo, residing at Dopemu, near Lagos, was arraigned before Magistrate Mrs O. Awope, charged with stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, said that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 14 at Balogun Street in Dopemu.
He said that the accused stole a tricycle valued at N820, 000 property of Miss Bola Abdulfatal.
Ayorinde said that the accused collected the tricycle on hire purchase from the complainant.
“After the accused collected the tricycle, he called the complainant later saying that the tricycle had been stolen by thieves,” the prosecutor stated.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment as penalty for stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until May 15 for mention.
