Abuja – A Grade I Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced, a 30-year-old driver, Joe Onyedika, to six months imprisonment for stealing beverages and provisions worth N2 million from a store.
The presiding officer, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Onyedika, who resides in Kapwa village, airport road, Lugbe, Abuja, after he pleaded guilty criminal trespassed and theft.and begged the court for leniency.
Sadiq gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N10,000.
He also ordered the convict to pay N1 million as restitution to the complainant or serve seven months imprisonment
The judge warned the convict to desist from committing crime in future.
Earlier, the Prosecution Coounsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha told the court that the complainant, Ms Blessings Daina, reported the matter in the Lugbe Police Station on Feb. 18.
Ukagha said that Onyedika criminally trespassed into the complainant’s store through the ceiling and stole beverages and provisions worth N2 million.
She said the during police investigation the defendant confessed to the crime and some of the stolen items were recovered from him.
The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
