Lagos, – A driver, Kenneth Ihomon, 37, on Monday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of a Mitsubishi pick-up truck valued at N7million.
Ihomon whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft of his employer’s property.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ben Ekundayo told the court that the driver committed the offences on Dec. 1, 2018 at 3:00p.m., at Apollo Decoration Company, Eko Akete in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
He said that the accused conspired with another person currently at large to steal a Mitsubishi L200 pick-up valued at N7million which belonged to his employer, Apollo Decoration Company.
Ekundayo said that on the said date, the accused was given the vehicle to deliver some items to a customer of the company.
The accused, however, failed to return the vehicle to the office.
According to the prosecutor, the tracking device in the vehicle was used to locate where it was and this led to the arrest of the accused.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
They carry seven years and two years’ imprisonment respectively for offenders.
The magistrate, Mrs A.M. Olumide-Fusika granted the accused N1million bail with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be gainfully employed adding that one of them must be a relation of the accused and the other a civil servant.
The court adjourned the case until Feb. 12 for mention.
