Badagry – A 29-year-old driver, Jamiu Ojikutu, who allegedly drove a vehicle in a dangerous manner that resulted in the death of one man, on Thursday appeared in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos.
The police charged Ojikutu with three counts of manslaughter, reckless driving and driving in a wrong way.
The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 7, at about 7 p.m., at Aradagun along Badagry expressway, Lagos.
Adeosun alleged that the accused drove an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla Saloon with registration number LND85 FP and killed Taofeek Balogun, 45, a resident of Bayuf Str., New Site MTN Araromi Ale, Lagos.
He also said the accused operated on the public highway in a direction prohibited by the road traffic law..
Abubakar said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 20, 27 and 2 of RTA CAP 124, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria,” he said.
After the charge was read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Hotepo ordered that the sureties must be landlords or level 12 civil servants with means of identification.
He adjourned the case until May 15, for hearing.
