Driver docked for stealing Toyota Hilux, 46 cartons of beer

AKURE – A driver, Olusola Peters, Thursday was arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hilux vehicle valued at N1 and 46 cartons beer.
Peters, 26, is facing charges forgery and double count stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon, told the that the accused committed the offences April 14, at about 8 a.m. at Oba-Ile road, Akure State.
“He was employed as the driver Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration AL 698 WWW, valued at N1 belonging to Mrs Modupe Adetula, which he stole.
“Peters also stole 46 cartons of different brands of beer valued at N140, 000 belonging to the same person person which he was transporting.
“The accused forged the documents of the Toyota Hilux to bear his name,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 390 (6), and 390 (9) respectively, while forgery was contrary to section 465 and punishable under 467 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of State, 2006.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Adejuwon however applied for an adjournment to enable him assemble his two witnesses .
Not opposing the application for an adjournment, the counsel to the accused, Mr Leo Okoye asked for bail of his client liberal terms and assured of credible sureties if granted.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Adegoroye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must reside within the court’ jurisdiction.
Adegoroye adjourned the case to June 24 for hearing. (NAN)
