LAGOS – A 28–year–old-driver, Taiwo Popoola, who allegedly stole a truck valued at N38 million, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, who lives at 1, Ilupeju St., Oke-Odo, Abule Egba Road, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Rachael Williams, told the court that the offence was committed on April 9 at 11/12, Sakamori St., Ogba, Lagos State.
According to the prosecution, the accused, who is a driver in charge of a truck marked LSD 988 XL, drove the truck from the company’s garage to deliver some goods in Anambra .
“He was asked to return to Lagos four days after he had delivered the goods. However, a week after, neither the driver nor the truck was seen in Lagos.
“All efforts to locate the accused proved abortive until two days ago when the truck was seen in Ekoro Road, off Abule Egba,” she said.

Williams said that the value of the truck was N38 million.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Adenike Shonubi granted the accused bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
Shonubi adjourned the case to May 15 for trial.(NAN)
