Sango-Ota – A 50-year-old driver, Balogun Sarafadeen, who allegedly drove a vehicle recklessly and damaged some poles belonging to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company(IBEDC), was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Sarafadeen of no fixed address is facing a two -count charge of reckless driving and damages.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 20 at about 6.20 p.m. on the Idlroko road in Ota.
Mustapha alleged that the defendant drove a Mack truck with registration number KUJ 874 XU in a dangerous manner and damaged the IBEDC poles valued at N200,000.
He said the offences contravened Sections 6(1) and 135 of Federal Highway Act Cap, Revised Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties, who should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and
be must be gainfully employed, should show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government as part of the bail conditions.
Akinyemi adjourned the case till July 1 for further hearing.
