London – UK government has warned in a forecast that as many as 80,000 UK citizens could be killed and 200,000 infected should there be an outbreak of drug-resistant bacteria.
The report on Antimicrobial Resistance Infections (AMR) was published in March and was accessed by a local medium.
The report sounded the alarm on the need to develop new antibiotics to avert the possibility of even routine surgical procedures becoming high-risk.
“The risk of new infections from drug-resistant bugs is expected to increase markedly in the next 20 years,’’ the report added. (AGI/NAN)[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
