LAGOS – A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Kehinde Owolabi, to six months imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Owolabi, who had no legal representation, pleaded guilty to the charge of dealing in a restricted narcotic — Cannabis Sativa also known as hemp.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, in his judgment said: “Following the plea of the accused before this honorable court, he is convicted as charged.
“The accused is hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment which term shall start running from May 21, the date of his arrest.
“The drug exhibits should be returned to the office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for destruction.” [eap_ad_2] Reviewing the facts of the case earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Kalu Orji, told the court that Owolabi was arrested on May 21 at Baale Street in Ajah on Lagos-Epe Expressway.
Orji said NDLEA officers had apprehended the man following on a tipoff and also recovered about 200 grammes of narcotic from him.
The offence contravened the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
