LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – Nigerian journalist, Adejuwon Soyinka has been released from the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS).
A friend of the award-winning journalist confirmed his release on Sunday.
Reported that Soyinka, who is the Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos shortly after arriving from the United Kingdom early Sunday morning.
DSS spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya confirmed his arrest.
Afunanya disclosed that Soyinka was arrested at the request of another law enforcement agency, which he failed to specify.
The journalist’s arrest and detention attracted condemnation from several civil society organisations.
In a statement, the Socio-Economic Rights and Advocacy Project (SERAP) charged the Bola Tinubu administration to “end the persecution of journalists simply for doing their job”.
Hours after Soyinka’s arrest, a friend confirmed his release.
However, he said the former BBC Pidgin Editor’s travel passport was seized.
