Dutse – Dutse Emirate Council in Jigawa, has planted more than 750, 000 tree seedlings in Dutse metropolis during the last 20 years, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Sunusi, has said.
Sunusi told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum on Thursday in Dutse that the emirate council planted 3, 000 tree seedlings every year since he assumed the throne 20 years ago.
He said that the trees were planted in various locations to beautify the town, check desert encroachment and protect the environment.
“In the past years, you hardly see trees in Dutse because trees are cut down as fuel wood for domestic and other purposes.
“Dutse now has more trees than Abuja and any other city in the country,” he said.
Speaking on his dream for the capital, the monarch said his desire was for Dutse to be a decent city free of noise and air pollution.
He said that the emirate council worked in collaboration with Dutse Capital Development Authority (DCDA) to remove illegal structures from the town.
He said that though he does not envisage Dutse to look like a cosmopolitan city like Kano or Kaduna, he would prefer it to be a modest city.
“We need a clean, habitable city where there is no excretion or dirt on the streets.
“A city where the residents are employed, disciplined and educated to enable them enjoy their stay,” he said.

Sunusi expressed satisfaction that Dutse and other major towns in the state had recorded rapid development since the creation of the state 24 years ago.
He also expressed happiness over relative peace and harmonious co-existence among the people of the state. (NAN)
