KAMPALA – U.S. troops and their counterparts from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Djibouti are conducting joint counter-terrorism exercise in the east Ugandan district of Jinja, U.S. embassy in Kampala said on Tuesday.
“About 320 military personnel from these countries are participating in the annual joint exercise Eastern Accord,’’ the embassy said in a statement

According to the statement, the exercise aims to improve participants’ capability to counter violent extremist organisations.
The statement said that it was also to enhance cooperation and coordination among participating partners.
The Eastern African region has been facing threats from extremist organisations like the Somali militant group, Al Shabaab, which has launched attacks in Kenya and Uganda. (Xinhua/NAN)
