LAGOS – Mr Jacob Adejorin, Chairman, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) Lagos Chapter, on Thursday advised bakers to maintain utmost personal hygiene to curtail the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease(EVD).
Adejorin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that this would be in line with the directives of medical practitioners on the EVD.
He said that personal and environmental hygiene were important to efforts to stem the spread of the deadly disease. [eap_ad_2] “It is high time we bakers doubled our efforts in ensuring that we operate in a clean and healthy environment to prevent the spread of the Ebola disease.
“It is so pertinent that we make the advice public in order to support government’s efforts to make people aware of what to do.
“All overalls, aprons, hand-gloves, and other necessary personal protective gadgets must be provided for use of the bakery personnel and in adequate quantity and properly maintained.
“Armpits should also be covered and all nails be cut short always.
“Of utmost importance is the washing of hands with soap and water, which is even preferable to the use of sanitisers, especially after using the toilet,” he said.
Adejorin also said that any bakery staff with any skin eruptions, cuts, diarrhoea or fever should be disallowed from working until he or she had taken proper treatment.
He urged bakery owners to adhere strictly to the rule or be made to face sanctions by the assocation.
He said that asides the Ebola outbreak, personal and environmental hygienne needed to be mainitained to guard against other outbreak of diseases.
Adejorin said that about 90 per cent of Lagos residents eat bread daily. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
