Elderson Echiejile was not in the squad for AS Monaco that won 3-1 at home against Nantes in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Echiejile was expected to enjoy more playing time for the Principality club after regular left-back Layvin Kurzawa was side-lined by a hamstring injury in mid-March. But after featuring in their last two League encounters, the player was missing in Sunday’s game.
The 25-year-old was ruled out of the Nantes game as a result of an undisclosed illness, and in his stead Monaco’s manager Claudio Ranieri drafted in Andrea Raggi whose goal in the 72nd minute was sandwiched between a goal in either half from James Rodriguez for the hosts.
Alejandro Bedoya scored for Nantes in the 78th minute, but it was just a mere consolation for the travelling fans.
Raggi’s impressive performance in the make-shift role may not be as much of a threat to Echiejile’s place in the team, like the news of Kurzawa’s anticipated return to action by next week latest. (kickoffnigeria)
