Benin- The Onojie of Ogwa Kingdom in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo, Victor Ehiozogie, on Wednesday said the state needed an experienced technocrat to positively turn it around.
The monarch made the remark when he received Mr Godwin Obaseki, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Sept. 10, Election, who paid him a courtesy visit.
The Onojie commended Gov. Adams Oshiomhole for fulfilling “most of his campaign promises”, and expressed confidence that Obaseki could do more for the state.
“As you move around to campaign, remember the promises you have made to the people.
“Like I told some people, Edo state doesn’t need a politician as a governor, Edo state needs a technocrat as a governor and that person is you.
“Because, if you look at the states that are working they are manned by technocrats. The challenges that the world faces today can only be dealt with by technocrats,” he said.
Speaking on Oshiomhole’s achievements, the monarch said, “If I am to score Oshiomhole’s government, I will probably score him 85 per cent.
“Your predecessor in office, Comrade Oshiomhole has done quite a lot.
“Your are already the governor in waiting with your deputy. By the grace of God, we will all join in the victory party after Sept. 10.
“The comrade governor promised many things and I want to put on record that he delivered on almost all.
“If Ogwa was to score Adams Oshiomhole, I think they will not score him less than 85 per cent.
“In terms of benefits in the last 16 years of the advent of democracy in Nigeria, his signs are everywhere in the community.
“We have water, roads and schools, so I don’t think any community is as favoured as we are, from Oshiomhole’s government.
“I hope that as we support you, the favour that we have enjoyed under Oshiomhole, will continue to be with us.
“We know that in the last eight years, our trust and confidence we reposed in the comrade has not been misplaced.
“I am also sure our confidence in this team will also not be misplaced and we assure you that we will give you all the supports to become governor and even after.
“Our doors are always open to investors in particular. We have almost 250 hectares of land that are waiting for investors to come and utilize.
“So if you have us in mind, we will make it available; it has been surveyed it is only waiting for utilization.”
Earlier, Obaseki said the last seven years had been an eventful one in terms of development of the state.
“We have not only redefined government, but have also shown that government can actually work for the people,” he said.
