Abuja – Governorship aspirant in Edo, Mr Ilenre Emuan of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says he will generate revenue for the State by taxing the wealthy, if elected.
Emuan, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday, said such revenue will place Edo as the best economy where people will flock to in the country.
According to him, it is untrue that the people of Edo state do not like paying tax but that they are tired of paying taxes on things like rent.
“We have carried out a status study in Edo and come up with a three-pronged approach to solving it: capillary democracy, biculturalism and moral economy.
“`We will put in place a 25-year development plan to ensure Edo becomes the biggest economy in the country by democratising development and modernising structures.
“It is not that Edo people don’t want to pay tax. They are rebelling against the current tax regime. We will tax wealth and not rent.’’
He decried terrorism and other social vices among the youths, saying they were results of “the huge inequality that existed among the peoples, which our theory of moral economy will address.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Emuan is the ninth aspirant seeking to clinch the party’s ticket during the Edo APC primary on June 18. (NAN)
