Benin – The Edo Government on Monday issued Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to nine agro-investors for 150,000 hectares across the three senatorial district of the state.
Gov. Adams Oshiomhole who presented the certificates to the investors lauded them for considering the state worthy to invest.
The governor said that investment in the sector required long term gestation period, adding that the action of the investors demonstrated the confidence they had in the state.
He also lauded the Edo Ministry of Agriculture for fast-tracking the process for the issuance of the C of O.
Mr Godwin Obaseki, the Chairman of the State Economic Team, said that government desired making the state an agro-economic hub, stressing that it provided enabling environment for investment to thrive.
Obaseki stated that the process leading to the issuance of the certificates started five years ago, after an agro-summit held in the state.
He, however, said that the delay in allocating land to the investors was due to bureaucracy and resolving issues with host communities. (NAN)
