Fear enveloped Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan
North East Local Government Area of Edo State on Tuesday following the issuance of a seven-day ultimatum to Edo State Governor , Adams
Oshiomhole and Edo State Independent Election Commission (EDISEC) by
suspected Peoples Democratic Party youths who are insisting that the
PDP Candidate, Hon John Yakubu and the 12 councilors in the October 22nd LG polls must be sworn in or risk mayhem in the Council area.
Meanwhile the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDISEC) through it Public Relations Officer, Mr Isaac Irabor urged aggrieved opposition parties in the concluded Councils elections to seek redress in the Court of law rather than resorting to threat to cause havoc.
Addressing newsmen at the Councils headquarters, the newly sworn in Chairman, Hon Sam Oboh warned that the people of the Council would defend themselves within the ambit of the law and advised the
opposition PDP to seek redress the Court of law.
According to Oboh “My attention has been drawn to statement by some
disgruntled elements from the PDP to the effect that there is a plan that they are going to unleash mayhem to the peace loving people of
Esan North East which by the grace of God am the executive chairman.
“ I want to use the opportunity to issue stern warning to all those
perpetrating such level of mayhem with a view of causing crisis that I
have the constitutional responsibility to discharge my duties without
fear or favor and as the chief law officer I have the responsibility to ensure that there is law and order and to say in very clear terms
to those who are thinking of causing mayhem here that we intend defending our self within the ambit of the law.
“To all those who are offended as to the outcome of the election they
have their constitutional right to seek redress in court, any attempts
to introduce any unorthodox method by way of self help to cause problem in this local government will be resisted.
“The people of the Council are peace loving and they have spoken in clear terms and have given their mandate and I intend to defend their mandate with the last drop of blood I have.”
