BENIN CITY (Sundiata Post) – The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock over the Saturday attempt on the life of the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu by yet to be identified assailants.

In a statement made available to Sundiata Post on Sunday and signed by Chief ‎Chris Osa Nehikhare

Publicity Secretary, the Edo State ‎PDP said: “We are grateful to God that as at this moment no life has been lost. We are however saddened that up to seven persons were alleged to have serious injuries and are receiving treatment at Faith Medical Centre Auchi.

“We use this opportunity to sympathise with the deputy Governor and all those who were injured in the attack.

“While we call on the various security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book, We urge the leadership of APC to call all their governorship aspirants to order and imbibe in them that politics is not a do-or-die affair.

“We have observed with disgust the emergence of an Emperor in the politics of the state. One that brooks no opposition . It is important to note that the emergence of an “Emperor” at this point of our socio-political development is anti-democratic, crude and insensitive to the aspirations of our people.”‎
The deputy governor, Dr. Odubu, had on Saturday escaped death by the whiskers when gunmen shot at him.

The incident happened at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Auchi as he was receiving a delegation.
The attack took place a few minutes after Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Odubu left a party organised by Damian Lawani, representative of the Estako Central Constituency in the House of Assembly.
The gunmen reportedly invaded the secretariat and opened fire on the deputy governor and others at the meeting.
Five persons were said to have been critically injured, including the guard commander of the
Deputy governor’s police team, who covered his boss during the invasion.
Six delegates and three security details attached to Odubu are said to be in critical conditions.
They are receiving treatment at Faith Medical Centre in Auchi.
