BENIN (Sundiata Post) – The Edo Government says it is committed to making the state a leading hub for agriculture and agribusiness.
Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa disclosed this in a statement issued in Benin City by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the deputy governor spoke when the leadership of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Edo Chapter, led by Alhaji Ebiredelu Bako, visited him in his office.
It further stated that the Gov. Monday Okpebholo-led administration was driving agricultural growth through strategic initiatives to boost food production and economic development.
“For the first time in Edo’s history, over ₦70 billion was allocated to agriculture in our budget.
“This underscores our commitment to food security and economic diversification,” Idahosa stated.
He explained that the state was blessed with fertile land, in addition to the government’s resolve to revamp the sector.
“In line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive, every state must focus on agriculture.
‘’By the grace of God, Edo will soon rank among the top agricultural states in the country,” he added.
Idahosa assured the farmers of the government’s willingness to collaborate with AFAN and its efforts to curb insecurity, particularly farmer-herder clashes, through partnership with security agencies.
“Farmers can now return to their farms with confidence.
“Their safety and that of their families are a priority to this administration,” the deputy governor stated.
In a remark, the AFAN Chairman praised Idahosa’s contributions to the association and called for continued government’s support toward boosting agricultural production and addressing insecurity. (NAN)
