YENAGOA- Mr Olanipekun Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday inaugurated two projects undertaken by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Bayelsa.

The projects are the NDDC Renewed Hope Multipurpose Training Centre and the Internally Displaced Persons Camp both at Otupkpoti , Ogbia Local Government Area and the NDDC Bayelsa State Office, Yenagoa.

Olukoyede expressed delight at the two projects which he said were proceeds of recovered funds returned to the NDDC.

He expressed satisfaction over the judicious utilisation of the funds, promising the release of more funds recovered from the interventionist agency.

The Minister of Regional Development, Mr Abubakar Momoh, commended the Bayelsa government for its continued support to federal agencies such as the NDDC.

He enjoined other states to emulate such partnership for rapid development.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, said that the ultra-modern state office of the commission was named after the first civilian governor of the old Rivers State, the late Sen. Melford Okilo.

He said Okilo was among those that played a critical role in the establishment of the agency.

Speaking, the Governor, Douye Diri called on political and public office holders to unite to attract development to the state.

He emphasised the need for states to work in synergy with the Federal Government (FG) and international partners to solve environmental challenges such as perennial flooding, erosion and pollution.

Diri said that the collaboration had yielded dividends with the FG taking over the construction of the Nembe-Brass road.

The highlight of the event was goodwill messages from the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the NDDC alongside other stakeholders. (NAN)
