ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a decisive step in safeguarding the nation’s economy by instituting a Special Task Force across all its Zonal Commands to crack down on the illegal practices of currency mutilation and dollarization.
In an effort spearheaded by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede, the Task Force has been convened to enforce existing laws aimed at curtailing the detrimental effects of currency abuse and the dollarization trend pervading the economy.
According to the anti-graft agency, the primary objective of this initiative is to shield the economy from various forms of exploitation, leakages, and distortions that could potentially destabilize its integrity and functionality.
Notably, significant strides have already been made with the EFCC effecting several arrests in connection to the unlawful issuance of invoices denominated in foreign currencies and the desecration of the national currency, particularly in the regions of Lagos and Port Harcourt.
The agency said proprietors of private Universities and other institutions of higher learning found to be unlawfully charging fees in foreign currencies have been summoned by the Commission for interrogation.
The EFCC has reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding and enforcing all pertinent laws designed to foster the revitalization and sustenance of the national economy.
This latest action underscores the Commission’s determination to safeguard the financial integrity of the nation against illicit practices that undermine its stability and growth.
