Lafia – The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has deployed more than 4,000 of its personnel to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir in the state.
DSP Kennedy Idirisu, spokesman of the command, told newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia that the deployment was part of the operational order from the police headquarters.
Idirisu said the deployment include plain-cloth intelligence officers for surveillance and intelligence gathering.
He said that the command would patrol the highways and some identified flash points to curtail the excesses of criminal elements, who might want to take advantage of the festivities to commit crime.
“We have reinforced our patrol around the axis identified in the state as black spots for kidnapping, by injecting more Mobile policemen to stem the pockets of abduction in the state,” Idirisu said.
According to him, officers will also be drafted to all Eid praying grounds and recreational centres across the state.
He urged Muslim faithful to cooperate with the officers on ground in order to safeguard their lives.
He called on members of the public to live in peace with one another irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation and to disregard those peddling hate speeches.
Idirisu assured all citizens of adequate protection by the police and urged them to be vigilant during and after the festive period.
