Ekiti 2014: Election materials to be in LGAs 2 days before date — INEC

ADO-EKITI – All election materials for the June 21 gubernatorial election in Ekiti will get to the 16 local government areas of the state two days before election date.
Alhaji Halilu Pai, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ekiti, gave the assurance at a security meeting with Ekiti traditional rulers in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.
Pai said all non-sensitive materials were already in the state and were being distributed to all the local government areas.
According to him, sensitive materials are still being kept with security agents, and will be distributed at least two days before the election date.
Pai said INEC had put in place the necessary strategies that would guarantee a free, fair, credible, and acceptable election.
The REC, who said the commission was aware of plans by some politicians to duplicate Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), gave the assurance that their plan would fail.
He also gave the assurance that the security features on the PVCs would make it difficult for anyone to successfully duplicate them without being detected.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti, Mr Felix Uyanna, said his men were ready to provide adequate security for lives and property of all citizens before, during and after the election.
He also said the police would leave no stone unturned to ensure prompt arrest and prosecution of people who might want to cause mayhem in the state.
The meeting was attended by Oba Idowu Babalola, the Chairman, Ekiti State Traditional Council of Obas and the Onitaji of Itaji-Ekiti.
Others include Oba Rufus Adejugbe, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti and Oba Ajibade Fasiku, the Elekole of Ikole-Ekiti and  several other traditional rulers.(NAN)
