Ado-Ekiti – The Ekiti House of Assembly has directed the Ekiti Government to immortalise the former Managing Director of Odua Group of Companies, Sir Oluremi Omotoso, for his contributions to the growth and development of the state.
The decision was taken through a unanimous resolution at Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Funminiyi Afuye.
The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that Afuye commenting on Omotoso, who died on June 5 at the age of 75, described the death of the late icon as a ‘painful one’.
“The life and times of Omotoso has been a very glorious one. His death is very painful, because our role model has to leave at this time he is needed most.”
Earlier, Mr Steven Aribasoye, (Ikole 2, APC) had moved a motion that the late Omotoso be honoured by the state for his tremendous humanitarian and selfless services to Ekiti.
Aribasoye described the late Omotoso as a ‘great contributor’ to the development of Ekiti in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
“Nothing is too small or too big to give to the man, who had contributed to the development of Ekiti.
“I, therefore, call on the Assembly to direct the state government to immortalise our icon, Omotoso, “Aribasoye said.
Also, the support of the motion, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan, (APC, Ikole 1) said that the recognition of the good deeds of late Omotoso to mankind by the Ekiti Government would inspire others to emulate the deceased.
Similarly, Messrs Olajide Adegoke, (Efon, APC) and Adeyemi Ajibade, (Moba 1, APC) supported the naming of one of the ongoing projects in the state after the late Omotoso.
Other business of Tuesday’s plenary was the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation on Ekiti Public Finance and Management Bill, 2020.
The report was submitted by the committee’s Chairman, Mrs Olubunmi Adelugba, (Emure, APC) who said that the bill would ensure transparency in the management of public funds at state and local government levels in Ekiti.
Also, the house adopted the yearly reports of the House Committee on State Electoral Commission and International Agencies as well as that of its Committee on Media and Public Affairs.
The reports were submitted by their Chairmen: Alhaji Hakeem Jamiu, Deputy Speaker, (APC, Irepodun/Ifelodun 2) and Mrs Yemisi Ayokunle, (APC, Ekiti South West 1)respectively.
The house, thereafter, adjourned until Thursday, June 18.
