ADO-EKITI – The Ekiti Government on Tuesday said it had given landlords three months ultimatum to provide toilet facilities in their houses or face prosecution.
The General Manager, Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (ESWMA), Mr Olajide Borode, said this an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti.
Borode said the state governor, Ayo Fayose, gave the directive as part of government effort to curb the menace of indiscriminate open-defecation in the state.
“The state government has given house owners and prospective landlords just three months to provide toilet facilities.
“Anyone, who refuses to provide toilet between Dec. 2014 and Feb. 2015 will be made to face the wrath of the law.
“Whoever fails to comply with this directive, especially those in the state capital and other major towns will be made to face the wrath of the law,” he said.
Borode described as worrisome, the practise by some residents, who dumped their faeces in waste bins provided by government at strategic places .
He said the indiscriminate open defecation in unathorised places could cause outbreak of diseases if not checked by the authority.
He called on the residents to cooperate with the government to ensure conducive environment for all in the state.
He said people must inculcate the right attitude by dumping waste in the right places rather than the usual practise of dumping it on the ground. (NAN)
