Ado-Ekiti -The Ekiti State House of Assembly on Thursday committed an Executive Bill titled, “Ekiti State Security Trust Fund, 2015” to the House Committee on Security and Special Duties for legislative scrutiny.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bill was sequel to the recent security challenge in the state.
NAN reports that many members contributed to the debate on the floor of the House during the plenary, presided over by Speaker Kola Oluwawole.
The Leader of Business, Mr Sunday Akinleye, said that the bill when passed into law would ensure effective performance of the security agencies at curbing crimes in the state.
The leader through Order 78(1) called for the committal of the bill, which was only meant for first reading at Thursday’s sitting, to go through second reading to enable members’ debate it.
Contributing, Mr Gboyega Aribisogan suggested a single tenure of five years for members of the Trust Fund, as against the earlier stipulated four-year-renewable tenure.
Also, Mr Ayodele Fajemileyin (Gbonyin) and Dr Samuel Omotoso (Oye 1), said that the bill was timely due to the high spate of insecurity.
The members called for its speedy passage. (NAN)
