Ado-Ekiti- The maiden edition of the Ekiti State Amateur Boxing Championship will hold between Dec. 21 and Dec. 24, the Ekiti State Sports Council said on Tuesday.

The General Manager of the Council, Mr Kayode Adewunmi, disclosed this at a news conference in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the competition would be organised by the council, in conjunction with the Ekiti Boxing Association, as part of ways to revive boxing in the state.

Adewunmi said apart from reviving boxing, the aims and objectives of the competition were to select talented boxers for the state.

He said that boxers from the 16 local government areas of the state, regardless of their age brackets, would be recruited to participate in the championship.

A member of the organising committee of the competition, Mr Disu Bamidele, said that medals and trophies would be given to the best boxers from each of the local government areas.

He said that the first three winners in both the male and the female categories would be given certificates of participation in the competition.

Bamidele added that all participants would be given free medical health care, to avert any casualties during the event. (NAN)
