Ado-Ekiti – The Ekiti State Sports Council on Tuesday said it would organise more sporting programmes to revive and promote grassroots sports in 2016.
The General Manager of the council, James Asaba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti that the council had been unable to execute some of the outlined programmes this year because of a lack of adequate funds.
“Some programmes set up by the council in the year could not hold because there was no money to backroll the events.
“The council had solicited for sponsors since the beginning of the year but no positive response was received.
“We are all aware of the current financial situation in the state, over insufficient funds to organise programmes.
“I assure the youths in the state that in 2016 more talents will be discovered; we will be able to organise events to enable them to participate in various sporting events,” he said.
The council boss urged all the state athletes and the upcoming ones not to be discouraged by the current situation in the council.
