DAMATURU (SUNDIATA POST)- The People’s Democratic Party in Yobe has re-elected Sen. Umar El-Gash as the state’s chairman of the party.
Declaring the result of the state’s Executive Congress in Damaturu on Saturday, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Alhaji Baba-Iyali Umar, said El-Gash had satisfied all requirements of the law.
According to him, El-Gash scored 1,605 votes to emerge victorious.
He said that a total of 1,611 votes were cast in the election, adding that six votes were invalid.
In his acceptance speech, the re-elected chairman promised to revive, rebuild and reposition the party to become a beacon of hope for the people of the state.
He said the PDP in Yobe was not just an opposition, but an alternative that would give voice to the voiceless, shield the vulnerable and lift communities from poverty, neglect and insecurity.
The chairman noted that the popularity of the PDP in Yobe was what led to the victory of the party at the 2023 presidential election in the state.
El-Gash commended the national leadership of the party led by Alhaji Umar Damagum, an indigene of the state, for his efforts toward uniting members of the party.
“Indeed he has made all Yobeans proud. I have no regret whatsoever supporting him, and we pledge our loyalty and commitment for him to succeed,” he said.
The chairman called on all members to join hands with him to turn around the fortunes of the party, a leading opposition in the state.
“There will be no divisions under my watch; No one will be left behind. Our doors will remain open, our ears attentive and our hearts committed to fairness and inclusion,” El-Gash said.(NAN)
