El-Rufai picks APC governorship ticket in Kaduna State


KADUNA – Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Friday emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the February governorship election in Kaduna State.
El-Rufai scored 1,965 of the 3,446 accredited votes cast at the poll which was held at the International Trade Fair Complex, Kaduna.
The former minister beat four other contestants to emerge the party’s candidate after the primary election conducted amidst tight security.
Prince Nwafor Orizu, who led the APC team that conducted the election, described the process as free, fair and transparent.
He said Alhaji Isa Ashiru scored 1,377 to come second; Malam Haruna Sa’id had 127 votes, followed by Abdullahi Ango with 25 votes and Salihu Lukman, 22 votes.
In his acceptance speech, El-Rufai expressed gratitude to God for his victory and pledged to work with all party members to ensure its victory in the 2015 election.
The APC governorship candidate pledged to immediately commence reconciliation process with other contestants and stakeholders in the party.
He promised to build a “formidable APC” that would defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. (NAN)
