ALIKE-IKWO (EBONYI) – Gov. Martin Elechi of Ebonyi has advised coordinators of local government development centres in the state to adopt to government’s directives on enhance good governance.
Elechi gave the advice on Friday in his hometown, Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state, while receiving a delegation of the coordinators who visited him.
He said some coordinators were sacked because they failed to identify with the state government’s policy direction.
“I receive reports on daily basis on your performances and it is obvious that some of you need to go because you are not identifying with the administrative direction of the government.
“I, however, feel that relieving them of the positions is not the best, but we should give them chance to learn, ask questions and understand the right direction,” he said.
The governor urged the coordinators to perform better than their predecessors because they were operating on a better pedestal.
“Your predecessors had to choose the compass with which to identify the direction, but you are already dwelling on that foundation.
“You are therefore expected to perform better than them and move the ship of governance faster for overall development of the state.
“When I embarked on an appreciation tour of LGA’s in the state last year, I saw the level of infrastructural development carried out by the coordinators and I was happy that our aim of inaugurating the centres was achieved.
“We believed that there abound leadership talents hidden in the rural areas and your performances had justified our decision to tap such talents,” he said.
Elechi urged them to judiciously utilise the funds available to them, noting that the current economic challenges called for careful spending in all quarters.
“We would be meeting more frequently next year so that we can achieve collective success, especially in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
Chief Magnus Eze, Coordinator of Okposi Development Centre, who spoke on behalf of others, promised that they would support the governor to achieve all his development objectives.
“We will be with you in the face of the present challenges, especially in the political field,” he said. (NAN)
