Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Apex Muslim body in the North, Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), has called on the supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), to stop over hitting the polity regarding the recent election tribunal verdicts.
Recall that the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos last week concluded its sitting on the National Assembly election matters with the PDP retaining two victories while the APC taking four victories.
The big awaited outcome is that of the governorship which will be decided in the coming days.
Awaiting the outcome of the governorship, the two opposing supporters of the political parties have taken to the social media abusing each other and inciting violence should the judgement go either way.
Responding to the threat, the State Chapter of the apex Muslim group, JNI appealed to the tensed supporters not to throw the State into another round of crisis, but seek redress at an Appeal Court especially in the case of the long awaited governorship outcome.
The JNI who spoke in a statement, Monday and signed by its State Chairman and Emir of Wase, Alh Mohammed Sambo Haruna, said all aggrieved parties are encouraged to file their appeal as provided by law.
According to him: “There is a legal procedure for seeking redress in case anyone is not satisfied with the verdict of the election tribunal.
“All aggrieved parties are encouraged to file their appeal as is provided by law.
“The processes of seeking redress are well articulated by the constitution from the tribunal to the appeal and supreme courts where necessary.
“There is no need to overheat the polity thereby increasing the risk of throwing the state into unnecessary confusion.
“This appeal becomes necessary in view of the anticipated verdict on the governorship election coming up soon.
“All religious leaders are enjoined to call on their followers to exercise maximum restraint in view of the rising tension”, the Emir said.
