Abuja- A group of concerned Nigerians resident in the UK on Wednesday urged aspirants of political parties to adhere to constitutional provisions to avoid violence in the forthcoming elections.
The group in a statement issued in Abuja said it was aware that some aspirants had failed to comply with Section 131(d) of the constitution.
According to the statement issued by Mr Chidi Ughonu, failure to adhere to the provisions of the constitution will amount to threat to rule of law and fundamental human right.
The statement said Ughonu, the coordinator of the group, called on presidential aspirants to demonstrate some regards for the country’s constitution.
It also cautioned aspirants against acts that would undermine the integrity of Nigeria as a democratic country.

“We are concerned that if any of the aspirants is disqualified by a court of competent jurisdiction, rightly or wrongly, it may lead to a breakdown of law and order.
“We do not want a repeat of what happened after the 2011 elections,” the statement quoted Ughonu as saying.
The group also commended the Nigerian military for its efforts in combating terrorism in the country and pledged its support to ensure that the fight was won.
It called for support from international community to defeat terrorism in the country and condemned those promoting and using terror for political gains.
The group called on Nigerian to shun their political, ethnic and religious differences and unite with the government to defeat Boko Haram. (NAN)
