ISEYIN – Many eligible voters collected their permanent voter card in Iseyin, Oyo State, on Saturday. They were at various distribution units as early as 8 a.m. They queued up patiently to collect the card. The exercise commenced at about 9.30 a.m. in most of the distribution centres visited by NAN.. However, distribution of the card did not take place in Akinwunmi Oosogun, Enkule1and 2, and Wards 2, 3 and 4.
The residents were seen at various centres in the area waiting for the arrival of INEC officials but none came to the affected wards. Following the development, residents of the wards who were visibly angry, told NAN that they suspected foul play by INEC officials. Alhaji Gbadamosi Ishola, a politian in Enkule 2, Ward 4, said there was no explanation for their absence. “I think something is fishy here, we are here so early but no official, by my time it’s about 12.30 now and we are still waiting. “No one to explain to us, we don’t know what is happening and if we are not part of this country, INEC should come and tell us. [eap_ad_1] “INEC must show some level of decency and respect for all these people who have been here as early as 7a.m. yet no card, I hope they come here to explain to us.’’ The Electoral Officer in the council, Mr Babalola Ojo, said officials had not been sent to the three wards due to technical reasons. “When we received the card for Iseyin, we noticed that those for the three wards were missing and we contacted Abuja through Ibadan. “The headquarters have been notified and I can assure you that their card would be ready tomorrow on Sunday. They have nothing to fear, it’s their right and they will get it.
“Our aim is to ensure that all eligible voters get their card ahead of the 2015 general elections, and that would be achieved by collaborating with all stakeholders’’, he said. (NAN)
