Ore (Ondo State) – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday advised motorists to always respect and cooperate with its highway officials during and after the “ember” months.
Mr Philip Ozonnandi, the FRSC Unit Commander in Ore, Ondo State, gave this advice in Ore during its “Ember Month” programme and sent-off for the unit’s former commander, Mr Umoru Abdullahi.
The FRSC boss also warned motorists to always be patient while driving on the highway during the “ember” months which he alleged motorists tagged the “deadly’’ months.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that September, October, November and December are months of the year regarded as “ember” months.
This is the period when the roads experienced high vehicular movements annually due to preparations by the people for the end of the year and New Year festivities.
Ozonnandi advised motorists to always comply with FRSC officials’ directives whenever they asked drivers to stop for routine check.
“Motorists should also be patient while driving during these “ember” months, they are not deadly months but impatience of motorists during these periods cause road crashes,” he said.
Mr Ozonnandi also praised his predecessor in office, Mr Abdullahi, for his doggedness and commitment to official duties, promising to build on his legacies.
Meanwhile, Mr Abdullahi commended his successor, Mr Ozonnandi, FRSC personnel, marshals and other stakeholders for the honour bestowed on him.
He advised all FRSC officials to be focused, dedicated and operate within the confines of the law.
He said that road users must always obey all traffic rules adding that they were installed along the roads to ensure their safety and those of their families.
NAN also reports that the former Unit Commander, Mr Umoru Abdullahi, was transferred to Osogbo in Osun in July as the Staff Officer, FRSC Zonal Office.
It also reports that officers from other traffic management agencies, security agencies, road unions and those in charge of commercial motorcycles attended the programme. (NAN)
