Lagos, – Eko Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EKEDC) says it will soon eliminate cash payments and urged consumers on its network to embrace electronic payment platforms for the settlement of bills.
Mr Joseph Esenwa, the company’s Chief Financial Officer, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.
Esenwa said that using electronic payment platforms would reduce queues at EKEDC offices, ensure security and customers’ convenience.
According to Esenwa, EKEDC will soon stop receiving cash in its offices as the company has provided many robust options for customers to pay electricity bills.
“There is really no need to come to the office for cash payment.
“ Customers will save themselves from the inconveniences of being defrauded if they purchase scratch card vouchers.
“These are sold by vendors and agents across its networks.
“There is also the Quick Teller, which can be accessed through online banking portals on mobile phone devices,’’ he said.
Esenwa also said that the company had created a whistle-blowing platform to enable consumers reveal or report illegal or unethical activities of its staff and members of the public.
He said that consumers could confidentially report matters bothering on fraud, bribery, extortion; energy theft through illegal connections, vandalism and all actions detrimental to the society..
According to him, the platform allows consumers report anonymously through its toll free hotline, an email platform, a web-based service and a mobile app available on iOS and Android.
“This (platform) has provided a means for us to work together with consumers to expose all forms of illegal and unethical behaviour on our network.
“Our subscription to the whistle blowing platform is in line with our core values of professionalism, integrity and discipline, and our commitment to uphold the highest ethical standards in all our dealings with the public.
