MINNA – Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger on Wednesday called on elected public officers in the country to be more people-oriented in their actions, policies and programmes.
He made the appeal at the Government House, Minna, when he received the Niger East Senator-elect, Dr Shem Zagbayi, and other PDP officials from the zone.
The senator-elect and the others paid a courtesy visit to the governor.
Aliyu said that politicians and political parties would earn the votes and confidence of the members of the electorate when their programmes were targeted at development. “Most political office holders fail to realise that what the people need is sharing of their feelings.
“When they smile, you smile with them; when they cry, you cry with them,” he said.
The governor said that the state would present only candidates who had grassroots support in the 2015 elections.
Aliyu said that his administration would continue to consolidate on the goodwill of the people of the state through people-oriented programmes and policies.
Responding, Zagbayi said that the people of the Niger East had shown total support for Aliyu and his administration.
“Every place we went for campaigns, there was one project or the other carried out through the community development programme of the administration,” he said. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
