YOLA – Women in Adamawa irrespective of party affiliation have welcomed, with joy, the emergence of Mrs Binta Masi as the Adamawa state chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC).
Masi became the first female party chairman at the Wednesday rescheduled state congress of the APC in Yola.
Her two male opponents withdrew from the race paving way for her confirmation in a unanimous voice vote by delegates.
“We feel great. Binta is capable, she has the experience being a three time House of Representatives member.
“She is someone who has held national positions in various political parties before the formation of APC.
“With Binta, I can say the sky is our stepping stone not our limit”, Hajiya Fati Mohammed, a National Ex-Officio member of APC said.
Mohammed solicited for full support for the newly elected chairman for positive result.
Ms Ladi Joseph, a People’s Democratic Party member said the emergence of Masi was good news and that it would ginger more women to aspire for higher offices.
Mrs Hajara Ibrahim and Mrs Blessing Vandi of People’s Democratic Movement also expressed happiness with the development and urged Masi to prove a point by making a difference.
Commenting over her emergence, Masi said she felt humbled and honoured for the support and solidarity shown to her.
Masi promised to transform the party by pursuing reconciliation with aggrieved members and initiating programmes that would attract more members to the party.
“We already have the grassroots support and will work on that advantage to ensure the party victory at all levels in 2015″, Masi said. (NAN)
