Gusau – The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, has advised politicians to ensure that they fulfill their campaign promises to enhance the nation’s socio-economic development.
The monarch gave the advice when a committee set up by the state government to create awareness on voter registration and collection of permanent voter cards visited him in his palace on Tuesday.
He noted that the non-fulfilment of promises by politicians was capable of causing discontent among the populace, notably the youth.
“If such campaign promises were not met, there was the likelihood for people to develop lukewarm attitude toward election process,’’ Bello said.
He urged his subjects to ensure that they collected their permanent voter cards, saying that this ‘‘is your right and guarantee to elect the people that will lead you.’’
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, said that the committee members were at the palace to inform the traditional ruler of their assignment.
Rikiji, who, is also the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, solicited for the cooperation of the traditional ruler in creating more awareness for every eligible voter to possess his or her permanent voter card.
The committee chairman expressed regret that there were many voter cards that had yet to be claimed at the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission. (NAN)
