Gummi (Zamfara) – The Emir of Gummi in Zamfara, Alhaji Lawal Hassan, has introduced a three-month training programme for unemployed youths and women in various skills in the emirate.
The emir said while inaugurating the scheme on Friday in Gummi that it was introduced to create employment and reduce poverty level among the youth and women.
He said that the beneficiaries, comprising 30 males and 20 females, were selected from the 20 districts in the emirate.
According to him, during the three-month training, the beneficiaries will be trained in welding, tailoring, knitting, plumbing and electricity installation.
Hassan said that at the end of the scheme, each beneficiary would be supported with capital to enable them to stand on their own and as well train others.
The traditional ruler said that the scheme would be continuous every three month.
‘’As we all know, the fight against unemployment and poverty is a collective responsibility.
“I therefore use this opportunity to call on the beneficiaries and the entire people of this emirate to support and cooperate with us in this direction,’’ he said.
In his remarks, the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, commended the Gummi Emirate for initiating the scheme which he said was worthy of emulation.

Bello urged the beneficiaries to be law abiding and be focused during the training.
The caretaker of Gummi Local Government Area, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad, thanked the emir for the initiative, assuring them that the council would continue to support such laudable projects. (NAN)
