Biu – The Emir of Biu in Borno, Alhaji Mai Umar Mustapha, has commended the Federal Government over its Emergency Food Intervention in the North-East.
Mustapha made the commendation when members of the National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA) and Borno Deputy Governor, Usman Durkwa,
paid him a courtesy visit in Biu.
He described the gesture as ‘commendable,’ noting that it had
helped to alleviate the sufferings of persons displaced by the Boko
Haram insurgency.
“The Emergency Food Intervention is timely and has assisted in alleviating
the hardship experienced by the people.
“I also commend the Federal Government and humanitarian agencies for
their efforts at addressing the food crisis in the region,” he
said.
The emir called on the people to pray for the health of President
Muhammadu Buhari and for peace and prosperity in the country.
Durkwa said that foodstuff were being distributed to displaced families in IDPs camps and liberated communities.
He disclosed that food items and other relief materials would also be
distributed to affected families at Buratai, Kimba, Gur, Miringa and
some IDPs camps in Biu Local Government Area.
The deputy governor added that similar exercise would be conducted at Hawul, Bayo,
Kwaya Kusar and other local council areas of the state.
NEMA had embarked on distribution of 36, 000
tones of assorted foodstuff to displaced persons in Adamawa, Borno
and Yobe.
The distribution exercise was inaugurated in June by Acting
President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the Bakassi IDPs camp, Maiduguri.
