According to available information, the protest had been allegedly hijacked by hoodlums in the last few days, leading to the robbing of members of the communities returning from work and looking of shops in the area.
Information had it that passers-by and residents of Ogolonto Area in Ikorodu, Lagos State were allegedly attacked by some protesters who threw caution to the wind by resorting to violence.
The protesters, who had barricaded the Ikorodu Expressway at Ogolonto end, were alleged to have looted shops, attacked motorists, smashed vehicles’ wind screens, side mirrors, snatched bags and phones from passers-by, threw and broke bottles, brandishing cutlasses and other offensive weapons at about 6.30pm before they eventually dispersed.
So when they made to gather on Sunday, residents of the area were said to have resisted them.
The Commissioner, Lagos State Police Command, Hakeem Odumosu, has appealed to protesters to eschew violence.
