GOMBE – The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Gombe State chapter, on Saturday, urged government to upgrade engineers’ entry point in public service to Grade Level 10 Step 4. The Chairman of NSE in the state, Alhaji Lawan Abdullahi, made the call during interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe. He said the society had been agitating for the upgrade so that engineers should join the civil service on Grade Level 10 step 4. According to him, this will be commensurate with their length of training and duties. “We have made several efforts and attempts in terms of courtesy calls on people in authority to make the demand. “Engineers should also move to GL 12 step 5 after passing statutory examinations and being registered by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

He said the Disciplinary Committee of COREN was doing a lot to ensure discipline and adherence to professional ethics. He called on governments and the public to always engage professional engineers in the execution of projects. (NAN)
