Warri (Delta)- A Warri-based entrepreneur, Mr Simon Asite, has urged the Delta Government to evolve a strategic development framework to address the myriad of socio-economic challenges confronting the state.
Asite, President, Delta Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, (DACCIMA) made the call on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Warri.
He also urged the government to come up with a blueprint on how to effectively tackle the prevailing insecurity situation in the state.
Asite noted that Warri, which used to be a hub of the economic activities in the past, has lost its glory due to insecurity.
“Over the years, we witness the exodus of companies from Delta and that has contributed negatively to the sharp decrease in the internally generated revenue for the state.
“It is pertinent for the government to draw up plans on how to attract investment into the state to shore up the revenue base,’’ he said.
Asite, who is also President, Warri Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, urged the government to put in place measures to guarantee the safety of lives and property, to enhance economic activities.
“Government must as a priority, tackle the issue of insecurity or else all our efforts in attracting local and foreign investors into the state will be in hoax,’’ he said.
Asite urged the state government to prevail on the Federal Government to institute policies that would help in reviving the moribund Delta Ports.
Commenting on the federal government’s concession of the Delta Steel Company, Aladja, the DACCIMA boss called for its timely take-off to create jobs.
He said that the chamber would continue to partner the state government in developing the youths to engage in small scale businesses.
Asite called on the government to pressurise operators of Oil Mining Leases in the state to relocate their headquarters to Delta, to improve the state’s investment climate.
