Funtua (Katsina State) – An entrepreneur, Malam Aminu Ibrahim-Hannunbiri, on Thursday advised Katsina State Government to revive cottage industries in the state for economic development.
Ibrahim-Hannunbiri gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Funtua, Katsina State.
He suggested that the new administration should revive moribund cottage industries and establish more to explore natural resources scattered round the state.
He also advised the government to maximally tap available natural resources in various locations to generate employment and propel the state economy to higher level.
The entrepreneur, who owns a chain of businesses in Funtua, urged Gov Aminu Masari to employ the services of competent persons to drive the economy of the state.
According to him, short, medium and long-term programmes should be designed on irrigation farming techniques and instruments to cultivate vegetables, grains and other crops.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He said irrigation farming would create thousands of jobs and attract more investments to processing industries like tomato and sugar factories, among others.
Ibrahim-Hannunbiri also appealed to the government to revive economic programmes started by previous administrations on cottage industries.
Such ventures, according to him include commercial bee keeping, fish farms, chalk and paint factories and fertiliser blending plants, all at local government levels.
He said that kaolin extraction activities, agro allied processing companies, poultry, livestock production and other economic opportunities should be developed.
Ibrahim-Hannunbiri pointed out that active policy formulation and involvement of individuals, groups and organisations were desired to transform the economy of the state.
He said that his business outfit had assisted 15,000 senior secondary students to acquire computer education as a step to secure admission to higher institutions. (NAN)
